Chelsea legend Zola: Luiz good for Arsenal, but his defending...?

Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola says Arsenal have done well with their deal for David Luiz.

Zola, who played for the Blues between 1996 and 2003, left his role as assistant coach in the summer as Maurizio Sarri left for Juventus.

He told BeIN Sports: "It's certainly good business for Arsenal because they are getting a player with a lot of personality.

“Seeing the type of team Arsenal is, he will be very beneficial to them.

"He's very influential to the players, he is a leader.

“He always gets the attention of the others, he's a very intelligent player.

"Last year, he was very important for players like [Antonio] Rudiger, who were always looking up to him, especially for a team trying to play football from the back."

He added: “Probably defending is not his best ability, he's more like a midfielder than a defender but you need those players in modern football and, when he's focused, he's not bad defensively. He can defend well.

"I don't think there is anyone as good as him than making the lines from the back, passing between the lines or switching play.

"Considering what Arsenal needed, it's brilliant, he's exactly the type of player that they needed."
