Chelsea defender Miazga admits he was impacted by Beckham buzz

Matt Miazga was only a child when David Beckham first moved to the USA.

The Manchester United and Real Madrid great was one of the first big names to make his way to Major League Soccer when he joined LA Galaxy in 2007.

Beckham's arrival sparked a Stateside upturn in interest in the world game and Miazga, who now finds himself with Premier League club Chelsea, recalls the impact the former England international had on the game in his home country.

Ahead of Chelsea's pre-season tour to the US, New York Red Bulls product Miazga told the club's official website: "I don't think I ever went to a big friendly game as a fan but I remember when I was younger and David Beckham first came over and that was a massive thing seeing him live.

"There were so many fans wanting to see David Beckham. I was young, 11 years old, and he was a huge name so it was cool to see him."

Chelsea will meet Liverpool at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on July 27, before taking on Spanish giants Real Madrid at the Michigan Stadium three days later before encountering Italian club AC Milan in Minnesota in early August as part of the 2016 International Champions Cup.
