Chelsea defender Christensen set for positional change

Andreas Christensen will be utilised as a defensive midfielder in Denmark's friendly against Panama on Thursday.

The Chelsea centre-back has established himself as a regular first-team player under Antonio Conte this season. He spent the previous two terms on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach.

Yesterday, N'Golo Kante refuted rumours linking him with PSG. But if the Frenchman does eventually want to leave west London, they could have a ready made replacement in their squad.

Speaking to Danish publication BT, Denmark coach Age Hareide said: "We will definitely try him off at the defensive midfield in the two games we have now, because we have to have more options than William Kvist to the position.

"In my first international match against Iceland and Scotland, he played in the centre of defence in a 3-5-2 formation, where he was allowed to search the space between the midfield and the defence.

"He also played in Gladbach. If we are to defend us, he may be a good type of having, so he can slip between the midstoppers.

"Offensive, he has the courage to play in between the chains. He is great on the ball."
