Crystal Palace are back to the drawing board after being turned down by Tim Sherwood.
The London Evening Standard says ex-Celtic boss Neil Lennon is the bookmakers' favourite but there are reservations about the former Leicester City midfielder given his managerial experience is limited to the Scottish Premier League.
Chelsea coach Dermot Drummy has also been linked with the post but again, his lack of experience is expected to count against him while former West Brom boss Steve Clarke, a leading candidate with the bookmakers, is understood not to be under consideration.
Former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini and ex-Spurs and Fulham coach Martin Jol are also believed to have expressed an interest in a return to the top flight.
