Chelsea have avoided punishment from the English FA after a section of fans were caught signing an anti-semitic chant regarding Alvaro Morata.

The chant, which was sung after Morata scored the opening goal in the Blues's 2-1 win over Leicester on Saturday, included the Spaniard's name and was directed towards Tottenham supporters, who have a large Jewish following.

"The club and the players appreciate the fans' passionate support away from home, of course," said Chelsea head of communications Steve Atkins.

"But the language in that song is not acceptable at all.

"We've spoken to Alvaro after the game and he does not want to be connected to that song in any way and both the player and the club request that the supporters stop singing that song with immediate effect.

"Chelsea Football Club finds all forms of discrimination abhorrent and the language that was used in that song the other night we find totally unacceptable.

"There is no grey area. That language used was anti-Semitic. We have a zero tolerance policy towards it.

"If there is evidence that season ticket holders or members took part in that, and take part in it in the future, then we will take the strongest possible action against them, which includes bans."

After the game, Morata tweeted: "Since I arrived, I have been able to feel your support every single day, you are amazing and I'd like to ask you to please respect everyone!"
