Chelsea captain Terry: Goal was for brave Ruby

Chelsea captain John Terry dedicated his goal last night to brave little girl Ruby.

For the win over Marseille, the Blues skipper flicked home a seventh-minute opener before Nicolas Anelka added a coolly-taken penalty.

But JT's first thoughts were for a seriously-ill girl he met on a plane. He said: "I'd like to dedicate it to a young girl called Ruby from the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Chelsea's official charity.

"She had a serious operation two weeks ago but thankfully she has pulled through."

The pair met when Ruby was travelling to Florida to make her dream come true by going to Disneyland.

Terry, who was on holiday with his family, spotted her Make-A-Wish badge and they have been pals since.

The Foundation grants special wishes to children fighting life-threatening illnesses.

A spokesperson for the charity said: "We're over the moon about the dedication and it's really lovely for Ruby. Anything that comes from a wish we're grateful for."
