Juan Mata says the players are adapting quickly to the methods of Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas.
Winning in Valencia for a third time won't be easy as the Spanish club have made a good start to the season themselves but Mata feels Villas-Boas is already building something special.
He said: "Little by little we are gaining confidence and adapting to the manager's idea of the way we should be playing as a strong, fast and dynamic team.
"He favours a dynamic style of play and he showed this in Porto. He has a system he believes in and he is trying hard to implement that but once the game begins, it is the character of the players that will define the outcome."
