Charlton won't let Powell slip away

Charlton Athletic are determined to keep hold of manager Chris Powell.

Joint-owner and chairman Michael Slater has hailed the superb job done by the Addicks' manager, who brought 17 new faces into his squad only last summer.

Slater, a former lawyer, joked: "We are going to put Chris in handcuffs and tie him to his chair. He is not going anywhere!

"We've come in here with a long-term objective.

"I don't see the Championship as where Charlton belongs. We have greater ambitions than that and we're not going to get to where we want to be if all our talent - whether it is managerial or playing talent - is allowed to go."
