Former Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam expects Steven Gerrard to return to Anfield in January.

Stoke midfielder Adam will come up against his old Reds team-mate in this weekend's season finale for both clubs - Gerrard's farewell game before his switch to LA Galaxy of Major League Soccer.

Adam said: "I think he will come back to England on loan.

"The type of person he is, he will want to play games over the Christmas period. [And] Give anyone an opportunity to sign Steven Gerrard in the Christmas window and they would snap your hand off.

"He has been one of the best midfielders in the Premier League for a number of years."
