Championship clubs spend four times as much as German second division

Championship spending during the summer transfer window reached £100million.

Between them, the 24 clubs in England's second tier spent the aforementioned amount on new signings with the likes of Andre Gray (Brentford to Burnley), Moses Odubajo (Brentford to Hull City), Christian Stuani (Espanyol to Middlesbrough), Stewart Downing (West Ham United to Middlesbrough) and David Nugent (Leicester City to Middlesbrough) costing the most.

The total of Championship expenditure reached four times that of the 2.Bundesliga, Germany's second tier, which outlaid £25.5m while the other top three European leagues were well behind.

Italy's Serie B spent £14.6m on players, clubs in Spain's Segunda Division used £3.65m and France's Ligue 2 had the modest outlay of £730,000 according to the Soccerex Transfer Review 2016.
