Manchester United are into the group stage of the UEFA Champions League courtesy of a 4-0 win over Club Brugge.
Louis van Gaal's men cruised into the 2015/16 European competition with an overall 7-1 triumph over the Belgian club after controlling proceedings at the Jan Breydel Stadium on Wednesday night.
The star of the show was captain Wayne Rooney, who scored a hat-trick to emphatically end his 10-game scoring drought, while Ander Herrera capped a rare start this season by scoring his side's fourth goal and providing an assist for Rooney's second.
The scoring was opened ion 20 minutes when Memphis Depay, who netted a double in the home leg last week, set up Rooney sublimely from the left after beating two players and cutting back in to supply his skipper.
Four minutes into the second half and United were away again when Herrera found Rooney unselfishly for a simple finish before the England international completed his treble in the 57th minute when Juan Mata cut back in from the right to see him slot through the legs of Brugge keeper Sinan Bolat.
The victory was rounded out in the 63rd minute when Herrera received a lovely through ball from the impressive Bastian Schweinsteiger before finding the corner.
There could have been a fifth with nine minutes remaining but substitute Javier Hernandez was unsuccessful from the spot after Oscar Duarte had been harshly penalised for handball.
The win now has United sitting in Pot 2 for Friday's group stage draw.
