CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Pellegrini nous guides Man City past Plzen

Manuel Pellegrini's first Champions League outing in charge of Manchester City has produced a 3-0 win over Viktoria Plzen.

City netted three times in the space of ten minutes in the second half to open their account on Matchday 1 following a tough first 45 minutes against the Czech champions at the Doosan Arena.

Plzen frustrated City early but the Eastlands club managed to get going when Edin Dzeko opened the scoring three minutes into the second half with a well-placed finish from the edge of the area from Sergio Aguero's unselfish cut-back.

Five minutes later, Yaya Toure made it 2-0 with a fabulous curling effort after a sublime touch outside the area before Aguero added a third in the 58th minute to complete the ten-minute rout.

The victory was City's first in the opening fixture of the group stage after failing to do so in their past two campaigns and sees them placed on top of Group D alongside reigning champions Bayern Munich who beat CSKA Moscow 3-0 at the Allianz Arena.
