CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Chelsea rocked by late Basel show

Chelsea's mediocre start under the returning Jose Mourinho has continued with a 2-1 defeat to Swiss champions FC Basel at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

The Blues were expected to win their opening UEFA Champions League Group E fixture comfortably and it looked good at half-time when they lead 1-0 thanks to Oscar's goal just before the break, even though they had to break down the resistant Basel defence.

But Mourinho's side, who were beaten 1-0 by Everton on Saturday, conceded with just under 20 minutes remaining when Mohamed Salah added to his goal in last season's Europa League semi-final in southwest London.

Marco Streller, who had supplied Salah's goal, then sent shockwaves through the Chelsea camp when he headed Basel in front with eight minutes remaining with the Blues unable to snatch a late equaliser.

It was the dream start for Murat Yakin's side whilst Mourinho will have to head back to the drawing board as he looks to revive Chelsea's season.
