CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Arsenal land monumental win over Bayern Munich

Arsenal have kept their Champions League hopes alive by defeating Bayern Munich 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners scored twice late in North London to to inflict a first defeat on Pep Guardiola's Bayern who had chalked up 12 successive wins this season.

The opening goal came in the 77th minute when substitute Olivier Giroud, who had only come on minutes prior, managed to get on the end of Santi Cazorla's central free-kick and nod home past a flapping Manuel Neuer who had been brilliant earlier prior to this blunder.

Arsenal still had a lot of defending to do in the final 10 or so minutes but were actually able to double their advantage in injury-time when Hector Bellerin made a strong run down the right after making a key interception in midfield, before advancing into the area and squaring back for Mesut Ozil who volleyed over the line, despite the best efforts of Neuer.

Earlier in the piece, Petr Cech came to the rescue for the Gunners on a number of occasions, denying the likes of Thiago Alcantara, Douglas Costa and Arturo Vidal in a dominant first half from the visitors before thwarting Robert Lewandowski and Costa a couple of times in the second term.

Down the other end, Neuer came up with one of the best saves you will ever see when he somehow clawed the ball from behind him with his left hand when Theo Walcott's header in the 33rd minute seemed destined for the back of the net.

Arsene Wenger's side were in the contest more in the second lot of 45 minutes and it gave them the confidence to go after a winner, which came in an ugly fashion, but nevertheless it was the goal the Gunners needed to get their European campaign back on track.

Arsenal remain on the bottom of the Group F table but are now on three points where they join Dinamo Zagreb, who were beaten 1-0 at home by Olympiakos, with the Greeks sitting second behind Bayern on goal difference with both sides on six points.
