Celtic tee up Burnley's Austin in case of Hooper departure

Celtic assistant Johan Mjallby has confirmed that Charlie Austin is a target for the club just in case Gary Hooper leaves this winter.

Hooper is a target for Premier League club Norwich City and if he does decide to exit for Carrow Road, Mjallby says that Burnley hitman Austin could be his replacement.

"Yes, he might be on the shortlist," Mjallby said of Austin. "Charlie is a proven goalscorer and obviously he might come in handy in the future.

"But right now we think that Gary's going to stay on - at least until the summer - and that would be great for the club."

23-year old Austin has been on fire for the Clarets this season, scoring 23 goals in 31 outings in all competitions, following his move from Swindon Town in January 2011.
