Georgios Samaras is hoping that he and the Greece national team can give some optimism to the people of the beleaguered nation.
As Celtic's Old Firm rivals Rangers experience heavy financial problems, Samaras is well aware of how it can affect people as his fellow Greeks are dealing with something similar.
The 27-year old was recently back in his home country for a friendly and he knows how an important match, such as the winning Euro2012 qualifier against Croatia in November, can do so much to temporarily raise the hopes of those with an uncertain future.
He now wants the Greek team to do as much as they can at this summer's European Championships so his fellow countryman can experience a little bit of joy.
"It was such a big win. There was a smile on their faces knowing we had won a really important game - sometimes sport and football make people forget their problems.
"So what we can do in the national team is play at the Euros and give happiness to our people in Greece.""Three days before the Croatia game and three days after everyone was talking about it and everyone was happy," Samaras told Record Sport.
