Celtic's Brown to use Ryder Cup victory as inspiration ahead of Spartak clash

Celtic captain Scott Brown believes his players can take a lot of inspiration from the winning European Ryder Cup team.

Scotsman Paul Lawrie and Spanish great Jose Maria Olazabal led the European team to a narrow victory in the 39th Ryder Cup against the USA in Medina, Illinois, which came courtesy of a brilliant comeback on the final day of play.

The Europeans trailed 10-4 after 14 matches but eventually worked their way back to a one-point triumph and Brown feels that team spirit and camaraderie can be a good basis for his Hoops side to achieve a similar result against Spartak Moscow in the Champions League tonight.

"We stayed up to watch the Ryder Cup and it was magic - probably the best telly I've watched in a long time," said Brown.

"The lesson for all of us is to never give up, always keep going.

"Everyone thought the Americans had it won, but it showed you what team spirit can do.

"We can definitely learn from it. If we start well and get confidence behind us, we can maybe get the three points."
