Celtic not interest in selling Southampton target van Dijk for £7m

Celtic boss Ronny Deila has made it vehemently clear that his club has no intentions of selling Virgil van Dijk.

The Dutch centre-half has been heavily linked with a move away from Parkhead for much of the summer transfer window with Southampton the latest club to be reported to making a move.

It is believed the Saints are set to lodge a bid of £7million for 23-year-old van Dijk but Deila insists the Hoops are planning to keep hold of the former FC Groningen star.

"It is the same things I say all the time," said Deila ahead of the Scottish club's Champions League qualifier against Azerbaijani side Qarabag on Wednesday.

"We don't need to sell him, we want to have him here and it is a day before a very important game. Virgil is very focused, happy and really wants to play Champions League with Celtic.

"Seven million? You think we would say yes to that? They haven't bid. He is a top international player and everyone knows that. "We want to reach the Champions League. We want to make this big club be successful, we need the best players and he is one of them."
