Celtic exit Europa League despite first win

Celtic went out of the Europa League despite overcoming Hapoel Tel-Aviv in Glasgow 2-0 to record their first win in Group C. The Israelis, beaten by goals from Georgios Samaras and Barry Robson, progressed along with Hamburg after the Germans' 2-0 win over Rapid Vienna.

Samaras pounced to head home after 22 minutes from an Aiden McGeady cross as Celtic dominated the first half.

In a more even second period Robson curled in a free-kick after 68 minutes in a more even second period.

Celtic then lost their way as Hapoel came back into the game but the Hoops managed to hold out for what was only a consolation result.

The fact that Parkhead was barely half full tells its own story of Celtic's disappointing European campaign.
