Cattermole proud of keeping cool during Sunderland freeze

Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole is proud of the way he handled being frozen out by former manager Paolo di Canio.

He is proud of his conduct when Di Canio stripped him of the captaincy and forced him to train with the Under-21 squad.

"The summer was a massive learning curve for me," he said. "It was the first time I had not been wanted by a manager.

"It was tortuous but I was quite happy with the way I dealt with it.

"I spoke to a lot of senior players who had been in the same situation, listened and took their advice.

"I kept my mouth shut, I kept my head down. I trained every day, a lot of the time, running on my own."
