Cascarino: Man Utd striker Rashford needs personal coaching

Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino believes Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford needs specialist coaching.

The England forward has now scored three goals in his last four international appearances, the same as he managed in his previous 25 England games.

Cascarino thinks the youngster would benefit from some one-to-one coaching on his finishing technique.

“Football is a team game but being a striker can leave you isolated," he wrote in The Times.

“You are judged on whether you take your chances, something Marcus Rashford is failing to do.

“So many missed chances come to mind with Rashford.

“The one-on-one against Belgium this summer, the close-range headers he missed for Manchester United against Newcastle United and the chances against Croatia on Friday.

“I think he needs to find a striking coach and do lots of individual sessions on his finishing.

“Shooting drills with five or six team-mates is not enough. It has to be relentless practice on all sorts of finishes in the box.

“I spent hours in training, on my own or with one coach just working on taking those chances. Rashford has pace, skill and strength — he terrifies defenders.

“He could be a star but if he keeps missing these chances he will always be the guy who is in and out of the team."
