Manchester City and Chelsea scored nine goals between them whilst Arsenal's youngsters dumped Liverpool out of the Carling Cup. A nineteen year old and a twenty one year old scored the goals which saw off Liverpool off 2-1 at The Emirates.
Teenager Fran Merida netted his first Arsenal goal on 19 minutes but the Reds levelled shortly afterwards with an impressive volley from Emiliano Insua.
But just after the break Nicklas Bendtner scored the decisive second for a victory the home side just about deserved.
Two goals in each half were more than sufficient for Chelsea to coast into the quarter-finals with an easy 4-0 win over Bolton at Stamford Bridge.
First-half goals from Salomon Kalou and Florent Malouda put the home side in command before Deco and substitute Didier Drogba finished off Gary Megson's side after the break.
Manchester City had an equally easy passage through to the next round, outclassing Championship Scunthorpe 5-1 at Eastlands.
Scunthorpe actually drew level through Jonathan Forte after Stephen Ireland had given City an early advantage.
But the hosts regained the lead before half time when Roque Santa Cruz scored, and second-half goals from Joleon Lescott, Carlos Tevez and Michael Johnson simply confirmed the Premier League side's dominance.
The teams in the hat for Saturday's draw are now an all Premiership affair: Arsenal, Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers, Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, Portsmouth, and Tottenham.
