Cardiff boss Warnock tribute to Sala family

Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock has attended the funeral of Emiliano Sala.

The heartbroken family of Sala led thousands of mourners at the funeral of the tragic Argentine football star, who died following a plane crash over the English Channel

The new Cardiff City signing's mother, Mercedes and sister Romina broke down in tears as they were comforted by the friends and former teammates of the striker.

The mourners, many of them wearing “Emi" number 9 shirts, include Bluebird's manager Warnock and chief executive Ken Choo, who led the Premier League club's respects.

Warnock told the Mirror: “It's been very difficult for everyone but none more so than for Mercedes, Romina and the brother.

“Things like this don't happen very often. You can't really understand the emotions of the family, but the thing today is how united they all are.

“The whole village is really united, and I think it just brings it home to you just how important family are.

“It's very been very moving in there. Mercedes has been fantastic. She's been an amazing woman.

“We met the father as well, and he's very emotional. It's been a difficult morning for everyone. I think they have some comfort in the fact that at least it can have closure."
