Cardiff boss Warnock delivers update on Liverpool, Aston Villa target Etheridge

Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock insists there's been no offers for Neil Etheridge.

Etheridge has been linked with Champions League winners Liverpool and Aston Villa.

But veteran Cardiff boss Warnock said: “I've had no offers whatsoever for Neil. I've read comments we've turned down an £8million offer from this club and that club, but I've not received any phone calls and I don't think [Cardiff chief executive] Ken Choo has."

Warnock hopes to keep hold of Etheridge and add a new midfielder with Wales international Will Vaulks expected to arrive from Rotherham. The 70-year-old is also interested in Newport goalkeeper Joe Day to provide competition for Etheridge.

Day was named League Two's goalkeeper of the season as Newport made it to the division's play-off final at Wembley where they lost 1-0 to Tranmere.

“We're looking at how we can get more competition in all sorts of areas and goalkeeping is one," said Warnock.
