CAPITAL ONE CUP: Everton come from behind to deny Reading

Everton have come from a goal down to defeat Reading 2-1 in the third round of the Capital One Cup.

Nick Blackman had the Royals ahead in the 36th minute at the Madejski Stadium when he knocked home Ola John's left-wing cross from close range after the home side had peppered Joel Robles' goal for much of the opening stages of the clash.

However, the Toffees were back on level terms just after the hour-mark when Ross Barkley fired home a sumptuous left-foot volley following a weak clearance from the Royals.

Just over 10 minutes later, Everton edged ahead courtesy of Gerard Deulofeu's 30-yard free-kick which cannoned into the hands of the diving Ali Al Habsi and subsequently in off the post.

That was enough to see Roberto Martinez's side though to the next stage at the expense of Steve Clarke's Reading who were good value early before succumbing to Premier League quality.
