Fabio Capello made eight changes to his England side for the 1-0 friendly international win over Sweden, plus a host of second half substitutions. Despite the constant change of personnel, the Italian was able to see how his fringe player's coped with international football.
The Three Lions boss said: "It was a very interesting game. It was not easy because Sweden are a really good team with good organisation. I'm happy but we need to improve. When you have the ball you have to move it quicker. I learned a lot [about playing without Rooney] and that was important.
"I'm happy for the experiments. Without Rooney we changed the style and played with three midfielders, we won two games [against Spain and Sweden] and we created a lot of chances. I know that Rooney is a fantastic player but I saw during these two games really good spirit."
