Villarreal midfielder Cani admits he shouldn't have thrown a water bottle at Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho on Sunday night.
Cani was sent from the bench for his actions after he reacted furiously to Mourinho celebrating a Real goal in Villarreal's technical area.
"It seemed to me at that moment he was coming to laugh at us and was doing something he should not be doing," explained Cani.
"I acknowledge that I should have not thrown anything, but if I did so, I must say that I did not intend to hit him, but with the idea to force him to leave.
"What he was doing should not have occurred where we were. He should have stayed in his own area."
