Gigi Cagni admits he will leave Empoli at the end of the season.
"I am certain I will not be staying on next year," he told journalists after yesterday's 1-1 draw with Parma.
The team's fate hangs in the balance going into the final five rounds, as Empoli are level with Reggina in penultimate place.
"Results are always valuable, especially at this stage of the campaign. We must continue working to improve areas of our play that are not up to scratch, but I have only been here for two weeks and am convinced next Sunday we'll see a different performance.
"The fight to stay in Serie A will depend a great deal on what the other clubs do. If one of them gives in, then the threshold needed to achieve safety gets lower, otherwise it becomes an even tougher battle."
