Cagliari's Biondini thrilled with first Italy call

Cagliari midfielder Davide Biondini is pinching himself after earning a maiden call-up to Marcello Lippi's Italy squad.

Biondini is one of two brand new faces in the side for friendlies against Holland and Sweden, joining Livorno's Antonio Candreva.

"As soon as [Coach Massimiliano] Allegri gave me the news, I was so moved and honestly did not expect this," grinned the 26-year-old.

"Of course if one gives his best on the field every week then the thought does come, but there are so many strong players who can target the Nazionale.

"This is absolutely a dream come true."

President Massimo Cellino revealed the news to the media in the Press conference after today's 2-0 victory over Sampdoria.

"I found out on Friday, but I couldn't say anything," said the patron. "I am happy for Biondini, as he is playing so well this season.

"It is very satisfying for my Cagliari side to have two players in the Italy squad."

The other is goalkeeper Federico Marchetti.
