Jack Butland is ready to do battle with Lee Grant to reclaim the number one goalkeeping position at Stoke City.
The 24-year-old has been sidelined for the past 12 months with an ankle injury sustained on England duty but is working his way back to full fitness.
However, Butland will not easily retain his spot in Mark Hughes's starting line-up as Lee Grant, who joined permanently from Derby County in January after impressing in loan, has made the position his own.
"He [Grant] knows I want the shirt, I know he wants to keep it and that's the way it is," Butland told Sky Sports News HQ.
"He's done fantastically for someone who at the start of the season was on the bench at Derby and wondering what he was going to do next.
"He's succeeded in everything he's been asked to do. I am thrilled for him. We've known each other for a while and we push each other."
Butland added: "I'll have a good week of training while the boys are away on international duty and hopefully that'll get me up to speed and then I can join up fully with the rest of the squad next week.
"Then it's just a case of getting that match fitness and that match sharpness back."
