Burnley hero Cassidy: Bikey World Cup success will benefit Clarets

Former Burnley star and Northern Ireland international Tommy Cassidy says the club will benefit from Andre Bikey helping Cameroon to the World Cup finals.

Cassidy knows from experience how that motivation will affect Burnley.

"From what I've seen of him he doesn't look a bad player and it's good to see another Burnley player at the World Cup again," said the Northern Irishman, now 58, to the Lancashire Telegraph.

"He will know that he's got to play well for the rest of the season now. He'll need to stay fit and he'll want to play well for Burnley to get into that Cameroon team.

"That is great motivation and that will benefit Burnley, and Owen Coyle will know that too.

"The only thing I suppose is that he won't want to get an injury as I did.

"Around Christmas in the season before the tournament I got a knee injury, but the club really supported me because it was a such prestige thing for them as well to have a player at the World Cup."
