Crystal Palace, currently second from bottom of the npower Championship, have sacked boss George Burley following Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Millwall. Under the former Scotland boss the Eagles have won just six league games out of 24.

A club statement read: "George Burley has today been relieved of his duties as First Team Manager of Crystal Palace FC.

"We would like to thank George for his dedication and hard work and share his regret that things didn't work out for him here.

"Dougie Freedman will take charge of the first team on a caretaker basis for the game against Preston."
