Bundesliga quartet ready to fire for USA at Gold Cup

The German influence on Team USA is set to extend beyond head coach Jurgen Klinsmann at this month's CONCACAF Gold Cup, with four members of the squad currently plying their trade in the Bundesliga.

Borussia Mönchengladbach winger Fabian Johnson, Eintracht Frankfurt defender Timmy Chandler, Hertha Berlin centre-back John Anthony Brooks and FC Ingolstadt 04 midfielder Alfredo Morales will all play key roles as Team USA look to defend their title.

"Everyone thinks we're the favourites," Johnson told bundesliga.com.

"Honduras, Costa Rica and Mexico are good teams with the potential to beat us, but we want to be the last ones standing.

"We're the hosts and the defending champions. If we play to our potential, I'm sure that we'll lift the crown."

Morales echoed the sentiments of his teammate.

"I'm really looking forward to the Gold Cup, it's something really special," Morales said.

"We want to win the Gold Cup, and we have the chance to win the cup - and in the USA at that. You have to take your chance."

The US kicked off the campaign with a 2-1 win over Honduras in Frisco, Texas on Tuesday night thanks to a Clint Dempsey brace.
