Jimmy Bullard must wind back his demands if he wants a new deal at Fulham.
The Mirror says the Craven Cottage club is still unwilling to give in to Bullard's demand to double his current £25,000- a-week wages.
"Bullard getting international recognition does force the contract talks along," said boss Roy Hodgson.
"In the beginning he was asked to show some patience and wait until the end of this year. Negotiations have opened up and it's an ongoing process.
"I'm sure we'll see a solution in the near future but I don't want to be put on the spot over the timeframe. In terms of his long-term future at the club, you don't want to lose your best players.
"There have been no approaches for Jimmy or any of our players.
"But I can't give stonewall guarantees that we'll be able to hold onto him. I hope we can, but we'll have to wait and see."
