West Ham United legend Sir Trevor Brooking is upbeat over their prospects this season.
Brooking, who has just retired as the FA's director of football development, has been impressed by West Ham's new signings.
He said: "I thought the win over Liverpool was the best home game for a couple of years and has given everyone optimism for the future.
"The start of this season has shown that Sam Allardyce has a group of players which are stronger. There is more depth in the squad and I think we'll all be disappointed if the squad was looking over the shoulder at the tail end of the season."
