Brondby's Agger felt unappreciated at Liverpool

Daniel Agger has revealed that he felt he was no longer a required at Liverpool in the summer.

The 29-year old Denmark defender departed Anfield in August after eight-and-a-half-years with the Reds to return to former club Brondby.

Former centre-half Agger was largely unused by Brendan Rodgers during the 2013/14 season and he has explained that as the main reason for leaving Merseyside after spending so long as part of the Anfield furniture.

"Let me put it this way, the manager and me were perhaps not on the same page in all of last season. For most of last season at least," Agger told Danish TV station TV3+.

"There was much between us, and for me it was just enough. I felt that he didn't appreciate the things I could contribute. When I feel that, then it's time to move on.

"Where me and him maybe went wrong from each other, was that I'm very direct. I say things as they are, and so I also expect that people are the same to me. Maybe it's wrong to expect it sometimes."

Since returning to Brondby, Agger has made one appearance for the Danish SuperLiga club which resulted in a 1-0 loss at FC Copenhagen on the weekend.
