Brighton manager Graham Potter says Adam Webster has "rare qualities".
The summer signing made his Albion debut in the Carabao Cup win over Bristol Rovers during the week.
Potter told The Argus: "He has got attributes that you don't see in many centre-backs.
"He is comfortable on the ball, can build the play and can step in and take responsibility.
"We are looking forward to working with him.
"He has settled into the group really well and is a good boy, so we are delighted."
