Brentford defender Mee proud keeping Haaland goalless

Brentford defender Ben Mee could not hide his delight at how his side kept Premier League top goalscorer Erling Haaland on Saturday.

The Bees picked up a remarkable late win against Manchester City in the Premier League at the Etihad Stadium.

Two Ivan Toney goals sealed the win, with Mee especially pleased at Haaland not having much of an impact on proceedings.

He told reporters post-game: "There have not been many times when I've been here and got a victory, so it's a nice change! To win it at the end, those great scenes and a really good performance from us as well was great.

“Coming here, you expect them to create stuff, which they did, but we kept them down to limited chances, played really well, and kept the big man (Erling Haaland) and [Kevin] De Bruyne quiet for most of it - that's what we aimed to do."

On Haaland, Mee added: "I thought Ethan [Pinnock] was brilliant up against him as well, he competed really well and, yeah, we defended him really well.

“It was tough, they're a quality side and you've got to be on your toes. Those balls that are wide, his movement, getting in behind and beyond you, he's always a threat. It was difficult."
