Brentford boss Frank admits Mee season over; discusses relegation battle

Brentford boss Thomas Frank admits Ben Mee's season is over.

The defender faces months out with an ankle injury.

Frank said: "Unfortunately, Ben Mee is injured and out for the rest of the season.

That is our entire back four out. He got a fracture to his ankle in the contact at West Ham."

Ahead of hosting Chelsea on Saturday, he also said: "We were in a 12 game unbeaten run and everyone thought 'wow Brentford are so good.' It's still the same staff, owner and players. Why is it now that we lost 10 of the last 12? Sometimes not good performances, sometimes things go against us and also injuries.

"I've got potentially seven starters out. I've got a good squad but it's the depth in some key positions that makes it tough. That's life and it's up to me and the players to find a way out. We are ready to fight and we need the fans. One thing I can promise is we will probably lose one more game before the end of the season but we'll also win some.

"I'm very optimistic. I'm a massive fighter and my players are massive fighters. When things are going against you, there's only one thing to do and that's pull together. We need the fans massively as well so I can't wait for tomorrow.

"It's about us and we need to perform. I said against West Ham, we didn't hit a good enough level. In other matches we were at the level but just didn't get the result. I know we will perform tomorrow."
