Emmerson Boyce has backed Wigan Athletic teammate Olivier Kapo to come good.

Centre-half Boyce said: "I'm happy for Kapo because he scored. It's just a shame the goal couldn't earn us a draw which I thought we deserved.

"He's waited for his chance and it will be a nice lift for him. Now he gives the manager something to think about, another option in midfield.

"We've got Antonio Valencia coming back from injury, while Jason Koumas and Daniel de Ridder should be back soon too. Competition for places is what we need all over the pitch."
