Bournemouth caretaker boss O'Neil: Howe was fantastic here - similar to Sr Alex

Bournemouth caretaker boss Gary O'Neil says Eddie Howe's influence at Dean Court still remains.

The Cherries go to Howe's Newcastle on Saturday.

O'Neil said, "He was at Portsmouth with me as a player. I've spoken to him a few times over the years and I know him fairly well. Fantastic coaching and managerial career so far and looks to be doing a good job with the team and squad up there.

"You can always feel the appreciation towards him from everyone connected with club [Bournemouth]. Where it was when he took over to where it is now, a huge part of that down to his work. He did a fantastic job for Bournemouth. Fans obviously are very grateful for that. But we go there looking to put a dent in what's been a decent start for them. Look to go there and cause them some problems."

And on his legacy, O'Neil: "Following on from an extremely successful manager at any club can be tricky. Sir Alex at United springs to mind. This is different size-wise but job Eddie did here was incredible. To follow on obviously is going to be tricky. But the club is back in the Premier League, in a good place, looking forward to the weekend and other games moving forward."
