Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe admits their big summer spending has left him feeling awkward.
Howe was in charge of the Cherries when they almost went bust eight years ago but has splashed out more than £30m this summer recruiting Chelsea pair Nathan Ake and Asmir Begovic.
He said: “When you compare the transfer window to other industries around the world it is crazy.
“The fees, the figures, the money, it's absolutely crazy what has happened to the market since I started in management.
“Because of my history, it's not normal for us at this club to spend the figures we have which is always slightly uncomfortable. And because of our history we have never lost sight of that.
“We are trying to compete in this league because if you don't compete in this league then I'm afraid it's going to be very difficult for you.
“We all want to stay where we are which is in the best league in the world and to do that you have to sign players and be competitive."
