Borussia Dortmund striker Alexander Isak has explained turning down Real Madrid.

Much effort was expended at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu to sign the 'new Zlatan Ibrahimovic' and yet their Bundesliga rivals' record on bringing through youth players was the defining factor.

"Everyone knows that Borussia is a good club to develop at as a young player because so many of them are in the first-team," Isak told FourFourTwo.

"I want to play here and I am waiting for my chance, and I'll take it when it comes."

The striker also distanced himself from comparisons to his country's greatest footballing product of recent times.

"People say things like [the new Ibrahimovic], but I'm myself," he stated. "I'm not trying to be anyone else."
