Borriello admits Astori passing influenced UD Ibiza move

Marco Borriello admits the passing of former Fiorentina captain Davide Astori influenced his choice to move to Spain's UD Ibiza.

Astori died in his sleep at the team hotel the night before a Serie A match against Udinese, aged just 31.

“Something happened that hit all players hard and that was the death of Davide Astori," Borriello told Rai 1.

“At Davide's funeral, I listened to the words of the Cardinal who said at times you can earn a lot of money and have success, but from one moment to the next, you're no longer there.

“So I started enjoying my life a bit more and taking it less seriously. Unfortunately, Davide has gone, but I think he taught us a lot.

“I would've liked to have Cristiano Ronaldo's career, but I'm happy anyway. I enjoy life now with a smile and the utmost positivity."

Borriello just started a new experience in Spain with UD Ibiza.

“I didn't play very often last season, as I was injured. My home is in Milan and I spent a lot of time there, but woke up every morning and found myself thinking this wasn't the life I wanted to live.

“I always thought of coming to Ibiza, where there is sun, the sea and fun. It's a complete island with an international airport and now we hope to bring some sporting events too."
