Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill has no regrets over quitting Aston Villa.

And the England squad member has all but ruled out ever playing again for his hometown club.

"Never look back," Cahill told the Sunday Mercury. "I don't agree with moving back only forward even though I loved my time at Villa. Kevin McDonald and Tony McAndrew did so much to bring me through the academy but I have moved on now.

"The fact I am on the verge of an England career would seem to suggest my judgement was right!"
