Bolton Wanderers will demand an UEFA investigation after local Spanish cops felt the need to wade into the away section of the 3,500 travelling Bolton fans during the first half of last night's courageous 0-0 draw at Atletico Madrid.

A Bolton spokesman said: "We will look to speak with the police, embassy staff and the club's travelling stewards to ascertain the facts.

"But in the first instance it appears the Bolton fans were blameless in all this."
