Bolton captain Davies: Better chance playing for Jamaica than England

Bolton Wanderers captain Kevin Davies has shrugged off calls for him to be handed England selection.

Sheffield-born Davies, 33, didn't score against West Ham United for once, but again battered a weak home defence - having a hand in two goals as Bolton won 3-1.

"Last season I was in a couple of the longer squads," said Davies, "but even when there were 10 or 12 strikers out injured, I didn't get a call-up. He used some kids and now I don't even bother looking at the squads when they are announced. So I think that now it is never going to happen.

"I am disappointed but that is life. My half brother is Jamaican, so I might try for them. I have more chance of getting into that squad than England."

The influential Davies has also turned down Scotland. Bolton boss Owen Coyle said: "It's the same with Gary Cahill. He could have 30 caps now for the Republic of Ireland because he's eligible to play for them and probably other home countries as well.

"I don't know if Kevin still feels he has a chance but if England want a real No 9, then he is an outstanding player. You want that in your national team."
