Blake would enjoy seeing former club Sheff Utd relegated

Former Sheffield United striker Nathan Blake would have no sympathy if the Blades were pushed closer to League One with defeat by Cardiff on Tuesday night. Welshman Blake spent four years at Cardiff before a £300,000 switch in 1994 to Bramall Lane where he scored an impressive 34 goals in 55 appearances. He moved on to Bolton for a fee of £1.2million 10 months later.

Blake said in his column for the South Wales Echo: "Despite all I had done for them, after I left, the Blades fans gave me nothing but abuse, a lot of it very personal and out of order. The play-off final when I was playing for Wolves was quite shocking.

"No, I've never forgotten what was said to me and I never will. The Blades' predicament now can't help but make me smile."

The 39-year-old, who retired in 2005, added: "Let's see Cardiff go there and steam-roller the Blades. That's the attitude Dave Jones' men need to go with and they're quite capable of carrying it out.

"The Blades' fans will start to turn on their side by then. People talk about Bluebirds' supporters having a short fuse, but the home fans at Bramall Lane are something else when it comes to being fickle. They will turn on their players, especially when you consider the season they have been having."
