Blackpool's Campbell ready to step up

Blackpool striker DJ Campbell says he is ready to step up and push for England selection.

The 29-year old is enjoying a fine season in front of goal with the Seasiders in his return to the Premier League after last playing in the top flight with Birmingham City about four years ago.

Campbell joined Blackool from Leicester City in August last year and has repaid Ian Holloway's faith in him by scoring eight times in the league so far.

Campbell started his career with non-league Chesham United and had stints with Stevenage Borough, Billericay Town and Yeading before moving into the Football League with Brentford in 2005.

He said he was always confident he could make it back to the top after his stints with Birmingham in the Premiership and is now setting his sights on the national team.

"I do think of England, it's a dream of mine, it can be a funny game and I could end up getting a cap," he told the club's official website.

"I could be another Les Ferdinand or Ian Wright, who both played in non-league football too.

"I've met Cyrille Regis a couple of times as well and he started off in non-league and did it.

"I'd love to think I'm now proving to kids who have had knockbacks and are playing non-league football that it can be done.

"People think it can't happen in this day and age, but it can."
