Blackpool captain Adam: Chelsea star Lampard class act off pitch also

Blackpool captain Charlie Adam has revealed how Chelsea ace Frank Lampard sent him a congratulatory text after their Wembley playoff victory last season.

They had met on holiday in Dubai a few months earlier and talked football for nearly six hours.

Adam, 24, said: "Frank wished me all the best and said that it would be nice to see me in the Premier League. That was when what we had achieved sunk in. It was a magical moment.

"I couldn't believe it. I replied saying thanks very much and enjoy the World Cup. The fact he took time out from preparing for a World Cup to send a text like that summed up what we had done.

"It was nice someone like him would take the time to acknowledge our success when he had a World Cup on the horizon.

"I will always have kind words for him. I never thought when I met him on holiday that 12 months down the line I could be on the same pitch as him in the Premier League.

"He was there with his kids, so we spent time talking. I was interested in how Jose Mourinho was to work for. I asked him so many questions. It was great to chat.

"It was interesting to hear what he had done under Mourinho and what the players at Chelsea were like. I wanted to know what he had done in his life to get where he was. We must have chatted for five or six hours."
